Senate

The Senate is the legislative branch of the SGA, and is composed of fifty senators. The Senate is responsible for passing resolutions and enactments, allocating the $2-million budget, and expressing the will of the undergraduate student body on campus. Students should feel free to contact their Senate representatives with any concerns or suggestions they may have. We also encourage any student interested in affecting real, tangible change on campus to run to represent their residential area in the student Senate. To get involved and/or get more information on running for Senate, check out the SGA Elections page, or email the Secretary of Outreach Andrew Prowten at sgaour@stuaf.umass.edu; he'll help you get started.

*Note: Senate elections happen early in the fall semester (September 28th-30th) with the nominations opening September 13th.

Senators are appointed to one of five standing committees:

Administrative Affairs Committee
Ways and Means Committee
Finance Committee
State and Federal Organizing Committee
Student and Academic Organizing Committee

Senators are also required to be a member of a Faculty Senate or other Administrative Committee such as SAJIC or the Police Advisory Board.
