Judicial Advisors
The Judicial Advisors Program

The Judicial Advisor’s Program was designed by the Student Attorney General’s Office of the Student Government Association (SGA) and the Dean of Students Office to promote a better understanding of the University’s judicial process. The Judicial Advisors Program is a trained pool of students that assist their fellow students through issues related to alleged violations of the Code of Student Conduct (CSC). This includes assisting in the preparation and presentation of students’ cases before a Hearing Board. The nature and scope of this board is outlined in Section III of the CSC (pages 26-27 of the 2007-2008 Daily Planner for Academic Success).

The Program consists of students who have been trained in all aspects of our judicial process as well as the critical role of advisor. The advisors can answer questions concerning judicial procedures on campus, help, help resent the best case at any level of the judicial systems and in most circumstances, attend the Judicial Conference or Hearing. At the hearing, advisors assure that a student’s procedural rights are protected by the Hearing Board, and provide the necessary information so that a student can make an informed decision regarding the allegations in question.

The role of the Advisor is to assist the student to prepare evidence, questions, and statements. The Advisor may not directly address the Hearing Board, Procedural Advisor, or witnesses. The Advisor may only whisper or pass notes to the advisee.

Become a Judicial Advisor
The Judicial Advisors Program is currently searching for students to be Judicial Advisors. This is a paid position. Judicial Advisors receive training in listening and communication skills, the judicial system, and conference and hearing procedures. In addition, they are expected to know the structure and nature of the university’s disciplinary system, and be able to apply their knowledge of the university community to each case. Therefore, Judicial Advisors should consider the extent to which they are able to assist a variety of students in a fair and reasonable manner.

In order to be eligible to be a Judicial Advisor, you must:
  1. be a full-time undergraduate (you may live on or off campus);
  2. complete and return the attached application to the Dean of Students Office, 227 Whitmore by 5:00pm, Friday, May 12, 2006;

  4. not be currently on judicial sanction;
  5. participate in a pre-screening interview;
